Kendall Talbot’s at the bar!

Kendall, welcome to the Calypso Bar! Tell us a little about yourself…Kendall Talbot

I’m a writer, mother and hopeless romantic. I’m also an adventure seeking, bucket list achiever who loves to travel. The best part is that I get to re-live these experiences in my novels. When I met my real life hero at sixteen, I had no idea it would result in a love affair that’s still going strong some 28 years later. My husband and I live in Brisbane Australia, with our two teenage sons who have inherited my travel bug. And I also have to mention our fluffy little dog called Josie McLuvin – she’s what I call a multi-shit (Maltese/Shih Tzu cross).

In researching Lost in Kakadu (available 1 August!) Lost In Kakadu book cover[1]I ate witchetty grubs that I dug from my garden, made slingshots with my bras, sat in the pouring rain and did many other crazy things that had my family assessing my sanity.

I live by two life mottos:

Be grateful that I’m mortal, it motivates me. Life is too precious to let it slip away.

Life’s too short to drink bad wine. I drink my good wine, use my expensive perfume and wear my fancy shoes. There’s no need to wait for the right moment…that moment’s already here.

We have some top-shelf wines in the Calypso Bar, but today we’re drinking Kendall’s favourite cocktail, Sex on the Beach, while we chat about her other desert island essentials. Want to join us?  Here’s the recipe for perfect Sex on the Beach:

sex-on-the-beach-800x800-300x300

1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz peach schnapps
2 oz cranberry juice
2 oz orange juice

Add vodka and peach schnapps to a highball glass over ice. Fill with equal measures of cranberry juice and orange juice, and stir.

Kendall, who’s your essential desert island company?

Ok my first choice is my hubby. After all he’s been at my side since I was 16, we’re practically joined at the hip. I couldn’t live without him, even if he is scared of spiders.

Choice two is a character from by upcoming debut book. Lost in Kakadu is centered around crashing into Australia’s remote Australian jungle. My character Mackenzie Steel is handsome, has an Adonis body and cooks a mean snake kebab. He also knows how to make me laugh. That’s the kind of person I’d like to be stranded with.

My third choice is Richard Branson, I bet he has some great stories to tell, and he’s a proven survivor. Yeah baby, bring it on.

And your essential desert island book?

Really? One book?  You’re mean.  Ok call me crazy but Ice Station by Matthew Reilly is a book I’ve read at least a dozen times and I’ll probably ready it many more. This is what I call pure escapism.

Oh, come on, I could have been meaner! I could have said you could only take one man to the island with you. And anyway, with three gorgeous men, who needs more books? Ok, your essential desert island playlist (you can have five this time!).

I’m very eclectic with my music, I think I love everything but rap music. It’s so hard to choose, but here goes… My favorite artists/bands are:

P!nk

Green Day

Cindy Lauper

Bruce Springsteen and

Cold Chisel/Jimmy Barnes (bonus! Barnesy with The Boss!).

How’s that for a crazy mix of artists?

Pretty colourful, one way or another! Kendall, where can we find you and your books when you’re not hanging out in the Calypso Bar?
